This is a perfect time to be hiring for your company and for those looking there is a perfect opportunity for you. But technology is making the job and candidate search a new frustration. . .the "black hole." I have attended several seminars over the past 10 years and have seen a change in how resumes are reviewed. No longer are humans looking at resumes, instead computers are scanning the resume for a select few key words then finds very few candidates. Recruiters are having a hard time in scanning through hundreds of resumes to find the diamond in the rough. Yet, computers are missing the diamonds. For employers, looking for that one of a kind candidate, I challenge you to add additional key words to your searches. Don't be afraid to stand up to the boss and say, this person has great experience, but does not have everything on our wishlist. As a recruiter, I have hired people that didn't quite fit what I had on the list, but I took a chance on them and they turned out to be the best employees.
As a job seeker, review your resume against the job description and add in additional key words that match up. What is your brand as an employee, what do you want others to remember you by after you leave the interview, this is key. Additionally, get out and network! You may find that you have connections that will get you to that perfect job. There are so many events that are happening in DFW for weekly networking and workshops to learn more skills. Think outside the box -- maybe it's time for a change in your career.
